September Classes: Knitting and Crochet

August 30, 2014

Fall is definitely in the air! Are you ready to switch from the breezy, cotton/linen/hemp projects to something more substantial? What techniques or skills do you want to learn for this colder weather?

Knitting 101
Learn the basics of knitting while making yourself a hat! If you’ve never picked up a pair of needles before, or if you just need a refresher, this is your class. We will cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, and sew up a seam. From here the possibilities are endless.

Monday, September 15, 22, and 29. 6 – 8 pm. $30.

Knitting 102: Knitting in the Round

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA You are all excited about learning to knit, and you want to expand beyond flat scarves and washcloths. This is the best next step. We will be exploring knitting in the round both with circular needles and double points. We will also be exploring a couple of hat edges: ribbing and the rolled brim. You should be comfortable with the knit and the purl stitch.

Tuesday, September 9 and 16. 5:30 – 7:30 pm. $30.

Piper’s Journey

document_upload31037-5_medium2 Piper’s Journey is a lovely crescent-shaped shawl that drapes nicely around the shoulders. Knit out of sport-weight yarn, this shawl is a fast knit and perfect for warding off a fall evening’s chill. As we fly through the garter stitch body, we will learn how to apply a lace border and practice our chart-reading abilities.

Tuesday, September 16, 23, and 30. 6 -8 pm. $30.

Two Mittens on One Circular

TwoMittens You’ve heard about knitting two socks at one time on a long circular needle, I’m sure. You can use this variation of the magic loop technique to knit anything that’s basically a tube, and if you knit two at the same time they will not only match, but be done at the same time. (This class is not recommended for your first mitten.)

Tuesday, September 23. 6 – 8 pm. $15.

Simple Shell Scarf

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Learn how to crochet a quick scarf with a beautiful lace-looking design. This scarf looks very intricate and will make others think you spent lots of time crocheting, but in reality it is a simple pattern to learn and repeat. It would make a great gift for someone.

Monday, September 29. 1 – 3 pm. $15.

Four-Way Moebius Cowl

Moebius The Four Way Moebius Cowl is a true Moebius cowl; it is done in the round with no beginning or ending. It can be worn in four different ways: as a straight cowl, over the shoulders, as a balaclava, or doubled around your neck. It is a fun project that crochets up quickly.

Monday, September 8 and 15. 1 – 3 pm. $20.

Pink Ribbon Cowl
This cowl is made with a chunky weight and it goes really quickly. It is made in one piece and woven through itself before it is stitched up. It fits very nicely around you neck and under your coat. It was named the Pink Ribbon Cowl because it looks just like the ribbon and when it was being designed it just seemed it needed to be made in pink. It could of course be done in any number of colors in spite of the name.

Monday, September 15, 22, and 29. 10 am – 12 pm. $30.

Fingerless Gloves

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA These simple gloves are one of the most popular accessories for people of all ages. They are fun to make and easy to learn. You will learn how to single crochet in the round and add a thumb gusset. They make a great gift!

Monday, September 22. 1 -3 pm. $15.
