Hill Country Weavers Trunk Show

May 25, 2013

As our customer shawl trunk show wraps up we are excited to announce our next trunk show, featuring designs from the book Musings from Mercury Hall from the Hill Country Weavers, one of Austin’s premiere local yarn shops, and a community outlet for all kinds of fiber arts enthusiasts.

The designs for this book are inspired by Texas dance halls and their classic elegance. This is reflected in the simple and timeless designs.

This show will only be here from June 1 – June 15 so don’t forget to stop in and have a look around!

To see the garments featured in the show, please visit the book website.

May 18, 2013

As the school year comes to an end, students and parents alike are ready for a reprieve from the lunch packing, the late evenings, and the increasingly difficult task of hitting the snooze button only eleven times. Even those of us who aren’t in school anymore can feel a generalized weight being lifted from the collective chest of the city. It’s so glorious!!!

Doesn’t it just make you want to take a knitting or crochet class? It’s way more fun that school.

We have a bunch of fun classes this month, and a super secret guest teacher!!!!!

Knitting 101 – Thursday @ 5:30-7:30pm (6/13, 6/20, 6/27). 30$ plus materials

Learn the basics of knitting while making yourself a hat. This is way more fun than making a garter stitch scarf – you’ll learn to knit, purl, increase, decrease and sew up a seam.

Intarsia Basics – Sunday @ 12-2pm (6/2, 6/16). $20 plus materials

Katie makes intarsia easy! Try it with the “Small Intarsia Purse” pattern from “Swing, Swagger, Drape”. The only prerequisites for this class are the ability to knit and purl, and the willingness to learn – it’s much easier than you think!

Karen Shawl – Tuesday @ 5-7pm (6/11, 6/18, 6/25). 30$ plus materials.

If you are interested in knitting lace shawls this is a great place to start. The Karen Shawl is easy enough to pick up and put down, but challenging enough to keep your interest.

Grrlfriend Market Bag – Wednesday @6-8pm (6/12, 6/19, 6/26). $30 plus materials.

This is a super practical summer knitting project – perfect to take to the farmer’s market or the beach. Awesome in linen, dishcloth cotton, LinSilk, or even felted a little! This is also a great introduction to lace knitting!

Indecisive Stripes – Sunday @ 12-2pm. (6/30 – one session). $15 plus materials.

This is a super fun, very interesting knitting technique which leaves you with a reversible fabric and stripes in two different directions. Confound all your knitting buddies!

Simple Shell Scarf – Monday @ 2-4pm (6/17 – one session). $15 plus materials.

Learn how to crochet a quick, lace-look scarf. The pattern is surprisingly simple and easy to memorize.

Crochet 102 – Simple hat – Monday @ 2-4pm (6/24, 7/1). $20 plus materials.

Learn the basics of crochet in the round with this hat class.

Ankle Sock – Monday @ 5;30-8pm (6/3, 6/10). $20 plus materials.

Learn to make a simple crochet sock that is easy to make and fun to wear. Perfect for summer crafting and wearing!

Kid’s Knitting Workshop – Saturday @ 10-11am (6/15, 6/22, 6/29). $20 plus materials.

Kids eight years old to middle school can learn to knit or advance their skills in a workshop setting.

For our full list of classes for the rest of the summer, and the rest of the crochet classes for the month, check out our website at

Our Super Secret Guest Teacher this month is Carol Anderson from Cottage Creations! Ok, this wasn’t really a secret but it’s so much more fun when we pretend it is. She will be teaching a glove workshop Sunday, June 9 from 10am-4pm and YOU should sign up! She has discovered a way to simplify knitting fingers in gloves and can’t wait to share it. This workshop requires homework prior to class. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to learn from this incredible teacher.

may flowers! shawl trunk show!

May 5, 2013

This month’s Felt It project is inspired by the old nursery rhyme: “April showers bring May flowers!”

So far, this year, it has been a lie. So, deciding that we were sick of talking about the weather and ready for some color, we made our own.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAnd aren’t they just lovely?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe flowers are deceptively quick and easy to make, so why not take a shot at it? There’s always someone to help at the store if you need it.

Our customer trunk show is also going strong. The theme is “Shawls” and so far, we haven’t been disappointed.

The ever-popular Stephen West is well represented.

Three Irish Girls has a made a good showing, too.

We hope you stop by the store to see the rest of this fun and lovely trunk show!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!
