Holiday Open House

November 25, 2012

Get ready for the holidays!

The snow is snowing. The wind is blowing. And we’ve got our yarn to keep us warm!

Please join us for our annual Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 1st. Treats and refreshments will be provided all day. We’ll be here all day, from 10:00 until 5:00.

Staff will present mini-demos showcasing a handful of various techniques including pom-pom making and Emily Ocker’s circular cast-on. We’ll also have live music from 2:00 – 3:30 from our favorites, Bill and Kate Isles.

We hope to see you on Saturday as we kick off the holiday season the way it was meant to be celebrated — with good friends and good fibers!

December Classes

November 18, 2012

We have a few nice offerings in the month of December.  Come and relax away from the Holiday tension, or finish a few last minute gifts.

Mondays, December 3, 10, and 17
5:30 — 7:30 pm

Let’s get together and try out Larua Spradlin’s Grrlfriend Market Bag! This pattern is a free download on Ravelry and can be made with any of three different yarn weights. Stashbuster! We will be learning Emily Ocker’s Circular Beginning, so break out your crochet hooks, people! Since Grrlfriend Market Bag has options for multiple fibers and needle sizes, let’s dust off the cobwebs and get creative!

Materials: 100 — 150 yds of fingering, sport or worsted weight yarn; five dpns size 4, 5, or 6, a 16” circular needle in size 5, 6, 7, or 8 and a 24” circular needle in sizes 10, 10.5, or 11; crochet hook size G, H, or I; tapestry needle.
Cost: $30 + materials
Instructor: Kathy Thomas

Tuesdays, December 4, and 11
6:00 — 8:00 pm

Knit one for you, one for your BFF, and one for your favorite knitting instructor — this quick project is a great last minute gift idea, or the perfect distraction from the hustle and bustle of the season. A must-have for the chilly northern Minnesota winters.

Materials: Pattern (available free online or through the instructor), 200 yds worsted weight yarn, US size 8 needles, cable needle, tapestry needle, stitch markers (optional).
Cost: $20 + materials
Instructor: Jen Lushboug

Wednesdays, December 5, 12, and 19
5:30 — 7:30 pm

These beautiful mittens will not only delight the recipient but the knitter as well! They are as much fun to knit as they are cozy to wear! One pattern but three sizes… change needle size to change mitten size! Fiddleheads feature Fair Isle colorwork (knitter’s choice of from 2 to 6 colors), and i-cord cast on (very nifty), a soft lining for extra warmth and coziness, and best of all, both mittens are the same so no right or left thumbs to worry about!

Materials: Fiddlehead Mitten pattern; outer mitten calls for 125 yds of main color and approximately 40 yds each of five contrast colors in a DK/Sport or Light Worsted Weight yarn (I used Brown Sheep Worsted). For the lining use approximately 140 yds of a DK/Sport yarn in something soft and luscious (alpaca is always nice); dpn size 3 for small mitten; 4 for size medium; or 5 for large; stitch markers; waste yarn and a tapestry needle.
Cost: $30 + materials
Instructor:  Jen Lushboug
