Colleen Vest
Mondays, August 1, 8 and 22
5:30 – 8:00 pm

This vest is simple to make with basic construction. We will explore the basic construction of garments and make this vest to fit you specifically. The “Colleen” design can be worn both summer and winter. It is a great piece to add to your wardrobe.

Materials: Size US J10/6mm crochet hook, 1000 yards of sport or DK weight yarn. Safety pin style stitch markers, Colleen Vest Pattern.

Beaded Lace Scarf
Tuesdays, August 2, 9, and 16

Beaded Lace Scarf Both beaded knitting and lace can be beautiful, but are a bit daunting to do for the first time on your own. Join us for this class incorporating a simple lace pattern with an elegant smattering of beads. We will be using Heartstrings “Beaded Lace Scarf II”. Get an early start on your gifting this year with this beautiful accessory! This is for the intermediate knitter: You should know how to knit, purl, increase, decrease, cast on and cast off. You will learn a simple lace pattern and how to string and manage beads on a knitted project.

Materials: Heartstring’s Beaded Lace Scarf II, 475 yards of a lace weight yarn, size 8/0 beads 40 grams*, split eye needle to string the beads*, stitch markers, size US 4 needles, tapestry needle.
*these items may be purchased at a bead store

Knitting 101

knitting 101 hat Learn the basics of knitting making a cozy hat. This is the basic knitting class where you will learn how to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease and sew a seam. Join the fun!

needles, 3 oz. of worsted weight yarn, tapestry needle.

Kids’ Knitting Camp
Monday – Friday, August 8 – 12
10:00 – 11:00 am
kid knitting Kids 8 years old to middle school can learn to knit or advance their skills in a “summer camp” setting.

Materials: Worsted weight yarn (cotton is suggested) and US size 8 or 9 needles or a project that the student is
currently working on.

Learn the basics of crochet in the round with this lightweight hat you can wear all summer long. Simple repeating pattern is easy to learn and fun to accomplish in a short amount of time. You will find yourself making these for all your friends and family.

Materials: Size H crochet hook, 200 yards DK or lace weight yarn, safety pin style stitch markers, pattern.

Angle Baby Sweater
Wednesdays, August 10, 17, 24, and 31

This is my favorite baby sweater to knit, to give as a gift, and to put on my own kid. I love this pattern! The sweater is cleverly designed to be knit in one piece with minimal finishing. It is also designed to be super stretchy so it will grow with the baby. This is an intermediate beginner’s class. You should know how to knit and purl. You will learn a provisional cast-on, Kitchener stitch, and a one-row buttonhole. The sweater may be made in size 6, 12 or 24 months.

Materials: Fingering weight yarn 100 (110, 140) grams of main color, 40(50, 60) grams in contrast color one and 15(20, 25) grams in contrast color two; US size 3 circular needles 24 or 32” long, US size 2 needles, 24 or 32” long, stitch markers, tapestry needle, waste yarn.
NOTE: You may use DK weight yarn and appropriate needles for a slightly larger sweater.
Cost: $40 to Yarn Harbor plus $8 fee to instructor for pattern

Intarsia Purse
Thursdays, August 11, 18 and 25
5:30 – 7:30 pm

There are two basic ways to add multiple colors while knitting: Stranded colorwork, which is done in the round, and Intarsia which is mostly done back and forth. Come learn Intarsia and take away this nice little purse. You will have your choice of three different patterns in three different levels of difficulty. We will cover how to manage and carry the yarns, how to join colors, how to prevent puckers and gaps, and how to finish the completed panels into a small purse or smart-phone tote.

Materials: Sunset Lake Purse Pattern, yarn as specified in pattern, size 4 or 6 needles, yarn bobbins, tapestry needle.

Learning How to Spin Using a Drop Spindle

Interested in learning how to spin yarn, but don’t want to invest the money in a spinning wheel? Then learning how to spin using a drop spindle is just for you. It’s inexpensive and small enough to take anywhere. Lita can teach you the basics in one night.

Materials: Drop spindle
(either make your own or purchase one before class), Icelandic roving (preferred).
Cost: $10 + materials

Crochet 102: Intro to Crochet Hat

Learn the basics of crochet in the round with this class and make a hat. It’s a great way to learn to make single crochet in the round stitches. Once you learn this simple hat you can make many variations to suit your needs. This hat would make a great gift.

Materials: 
Size H crochet hook, minimum of 100 yards of medium worsted weight yarn, safety pin style stitch markers. If you know you are a tight knitter or crocheter, maybe try a J hook, it is a little bit larger. Pattern available at Yarn Harbor.

Reversible Crochet Scarf
Monday, August 22

reversible scarf In this class we will make a scarf that is called “reversible” because it is different colors on each side. It is a simple technique you will love once you have learned it. You may decide to use it on other items as well. Class members will explore this scarf in both a worsted weight and a sock weight. You will get two very different results with the different weights.

Materials: 200 yards of yarn in two different colors (400 yards total). Use a size K hook if you choose worsted weight yarn, or size G hook if you choose sock weight yarn. Reversible Scarf Pattern is available for purchase at Yarn Harbor.

Lillie’s Little Sweater
Tuesdays, August 23, 30, September 6, 13, 20, and 27
5:30 – 7:30 pm

Join us in knitting one of Yarn Harbor’s perennial favorites, and learn a bunch of new skills in the process! We will be knitting Lillie’s Little Sweater by Cottage Creations. If you can cast on and knit you can knit this sweater! This baby sweater pattern includes many basic techniques such as knitting, purling, short rows, K2tog, SSK, picking up stitches, ribbing, simple buttonholes, raglan yokes, and the use of double points. This is a fun pattern to make!

Prerequisites: ability to cast on, knit, and purl.
Homework: Bring a 4″ x 4″ gauge swatch in stockinette stitch in your chosen yarn.
Materials: Lillie’s Little Sweater pattern from Cottage Creations, 24″ circular needle size 7 OR 14″ straight needles size US 7, double point needles size 7, enough worsted weight yarn for your size, three 5/8″ buttons, stitch markers, tapestry needle, stitch holders, handi tool or crochet hook, and don’t forget your swatch.
Cost: $60 + materials

Crochet Fingerless Gloves

crochet fingerless Learn to make these simple gloves, one of the most popular accessories for people of all ages from teens to adults. They are fun to make and easy to learn. You will learn how to single crochet in the round and add a thumb gusset. These gloves would make a great gift!
