We are proud to present our latest yarn from Cascade: Eco Duo! It’s an un-plied worsted weight blend of 70% undyed baby alpaca and 30% undyed merino wool. There is a generous 197 yards in a skein, and the recommended needle size is a US #8 for 18 stitches to 4″. It’s so gorgeous and so soft: like knitting with a cloud!

This would be a great yarn for a slouchy hat or a luxuriously soft cowl. Check out what others are making out of this beautiful yarn on Ravelry.

Katie likes quasi-military styling. This sweater, the Levenwick, is a worsted weight reverse stockinette cardigan with an asymmetrical lace closure. Even though it is lace, it looks a little militaristic, especially in the army green heather. She chose to do it in Cascade 220.

Like most of Katie’s large projects, it is taking her forever, but it is going to be fabulous when it is done. She is almost done with the sleeves, and then just has the front bands and pockets left. You can follow her progress on her Ravelry project page.

Entrelac Cowl
Tuesdays, February 21, 28, and March 6
Cowls are the accessory of the year. Cozy, practical, and beautiful. Enrelac is that intriguing yet baffling knitting blocks on the bias. This technique is best suited to the color-changing yarns such as Mochi +, Noro, Kudo, and Mushishi. Join us as we both get comfortable with this new technique and get a great cowl out of the bargain!

You should be able to finish an entire pair of socks by the end of class. Once you take this you will be hooked on crochet socks!

Materials: Size US E/3.5 mm hook, minimum 450 yards light weight sock weight yarn, 3 markers (1 must be unique), tapestry needle, Leisure Arts book, “I Can’t Believe I’m Crocheting Socks” by Karen Ratto-Whooley.
You will get two very different results with the different weights.

October is here. I am not sure how that happened, but here it is. To celebrate, our October Cowl of the Month is a very pretty, soft, cabled wrapped cowl with buttons from Blue Sky Alpaca.

Keep yourself warm and cosy while the weather turns.

We have a few other new ways to keep warm as well. The first up is Ella Rae’s Mega, a slightly thin and thick super bulky in a range of nice solid shades. 137 yds =250g. Next is a bulky from the Queensland Collection called Mist, a lovely soft thin/thick in a surprising and lovely mix of colors. 54 yds to 50 g. Ella Rae has also given us their lovely lace-style merino in a worsted weight. It has great colors and a great springy feel. 218 yds to 100 g. The last one is not so warm, but does win in the mohair/luxury department. Louisa Harding’s Simonetta, a mohair/nylon with an occasional shot of gold metallic. 264 yds to 50g. I am intrigued to see how it knits up.

Wednesdays, October 26, and November 2, 9, and 16
6:00 — 8:00 pm

This is my favorite baby sweater to knit, to give as a gift, and to put on my own kid. I love this pattern! The sweater is cleverly designed to be knit in one piece with minimal finishing. It is also designed to be super stretchy so it will grow with the baby. This is an intermediate beginner’s class. You should know how to knit and purl. You will learn a provisional cast-on, Kitchener stitch, and a one-row buttonhole. The sweater may be made in size 6, 12 or 24 months.

Materials: Fingering weight yarn 100 (110, 140) grams of main color, 40(50, 60) grams in contrast color one and 15(20, 25) grams in contrast color two; US size 3 circular needles 24 or 32” long, US size 2 needles, 24 or 32” long, stitch markers, tapestry needle, waste yarn. NOTE: You may use DK weight yarn and appropriate
needles for a slightly larger sweater.
Cost: $40 to Yarn Harbor plus $8 fee to instructor for pattern
Instructor: Jen Lushbough
