Helping Iowa Flood Victims

Carol Anderson of Cottage Creations patterns in Iowa let us know how we can help the flood victims in her area. The residents affected will be in great need of warm items such as hats, mittens and scarves as they head into winter. If you would like to contribute it would be much appreciated. Yarn Harbor will collect items and they will be distributed through either the Red Cross or another reputable agency.

Please attach a card to any donated items with the following information:
1. Name of item
2. Size if applicable
3. Fiber content (most items should be machine washable and dryable
4. If desired, your name and address and any words of encouragement

Cottage Creations patterns are dearly loved by Yarn Harbor, so we’re hoping to make a big difference by helping the flood victims in Carol’s area. Carol herself has released many patterns for community knitting that would be perfect for an effort like this. Thank you in advance for your kind crafting.

What is it?

Yarn enthusiasts challenge themselves to complete a project within the 17 days of the Summer Olympics. You must cast on a project during the Opening Ceremonies and complete it before the flame is extinguished.

 

The “rules”:

1. Your chosen project must be a challenge for you to complete in 17 days.

2. Casting on before Opening Ceremonies commence in Beijing is strictly prohibited!

3. Finish your project before the flame goes out: this includes seaming, buttons, etc.

4. You may swatch for your project before the games begin: after all, Olympians need to train!

Yarn Harbor welcomes two trunk shows!

Yarn Harbor is proud to host two trunk shows through the end of July. We’ve had Cid Hanscom’s trunk show since the beginning of the month. These designs feature playful felted creatures but she also designs accessories. We also carry kits for hat boxes and sock-shaped coin purses. Both are perfect projects for using up your sock yarn stash!

As of this posting, we haven’t even had a chance to unpack the Earth Heart Designs trunk show. Beginning tomorrow, July 18, you will be able to view Rita O’Connell’s wide variety of creative garment and accessory designs.

Both of these designers are Minnesotans, which makes us even more proud to host their work!

New Yarns From Plymouth!

We have recently received a shipment of brand new yarns from Plymouth! Take a look at what we’ve got…

Encore Sock is a washable DK weight version of the popular Encore Worsted weight yarn. This yarn is a great choice for both medium weight socks and baby clothes. We currently have the self-patterning colorways in stock.

Another great new sock yarn is Rockin’ Sox. This yarn is 60% Superwash Wool, 25% Bamboo and 15% Nylon. Having some bamboo fiber content is a great choice for a sock yarn because of bamboo’s naturally antibacterial qualities.
